Arts Events for Salmon Arm and Area

July 2 to August 25
  R. J. Haney Heritage Village presents Dinner Theatre every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday through July and August. Enjoy a one act dramatic comedy celebrating the history of sport and recreation in the Shuswap. “Maw’s Jam Eaters” is a local hockey success story from 1939, written and directed by local playwright Peter Blacklock.  Reservations are required. Adults $24, Seniors $21, Children under 13 $14. July 3 to 31  SAGA Public Art Gallery presents “HERS: The Sky is the Limit,” a travelling exhibition of Canadian women artists’ portraits by Izabelle Konikowski and Bogdan Konikowski.  Admission by donation. Sponsored by Scotiabank.

July 10 to July 18  Shuswap Lake Festival of the Arts presents the 2010 art show and sale featuring artists from the entire Shuswap region as well as an extraordinary Gift Shoppe, demonstrations, children’s day (July 14) and a delightful  café at the Sorrento Memorial Hall in Sorrento BC. Wednesday, July 14  WOW! Wednesday on the Wharf presents Sean Ashby, 6:45pm at the Marine Park Gazebo.  Admission by donation.  Bring a blanket or lawn chair.  Check WOW! on Facebook for performer links.

Thursday, July 15  Shuswap District Arts Council presents “Coffee Break” at SAGA Public Art Gallery, 2pm to 4pm.  Enjoy free coffee and cookies while you peruse the current exhibition.  Gallery open until 7pm on Thursdays in July and August.  Sign-Up Party for Paint the Town and Paint the Festival artists – sign up for one or both events and choose your “Town” location.

July 20 to August 22  Caravan Farm Theatre presents “Everyone,” a spectacular musical comedy in seven horse-drawn acts.  A must-see production, fun for the whole family.  Nightly at 7:30pm, no show Mondays.  Tickets call 1-866-311-1011, www.caravanfarmtheatre.com for more info, reserve online at www.ticketseller.ca.

Thursday, July 22  Okanagan Regional Library presents a concert by Will Stroet, a Vancouver-based bilingual performer.  Part of the Summer Reading Club program, Will’s songs are about animals, the environment and active living.  1pm at the Library in Piccadilly Mall.

Saturday and Sunday, July 24 and 25 Runaway Moon Theatre presents Sawllkwa (water), a spectacular large-scale community performance celebrating the wonder of water, featuring live music, dance, masks, puppets, hand built water vessels, waves of painted fabric.  Event goes rain or shine! 7:30 pm , outdoors at the Kingfisher Interpretive Centre, 25 km past Enderby towards Mabel Lake. July/August  Haney Heritage Village new exhibits:  The Birth of a Hockey Team:  May’s Jam Eaters, and The Story of Ruth: the watercolour journals of Arthur Adair Brooke. 

August 1 to 29 (Thurs to Sun)  Shuswap Theatre presents a Summer Theatre production SHIPWRECKED! An Entertainment – The Amazing Adventures of Louis de Rougemont (As told by Himself) and directed by James Bowlby. 14 shows August 1, 5 – 8, 19 – 22, 26 – 29. Showtime 8pm and Sunday matinees 1:30pm. Friday, August 6  One Camel Short will be in concert at Kingfisher Hall at 7:30pm. 

Saturday, August 7  SAGA Public Art Gallery presents “Paint the Town” for the sixth year!  25 local artists paint on location on Hudson Avenue and Alexander Street from 10am to 12pm (or so) on Saturday, then the work is installed and ready for a reception that same evening at 7pm.  Silent auction continues until August 28.

Wednesday, August 11  WOW! presents Roots & Blues performer “Wil Campa & La Gran Union,” 6:45pm at Marine Park.  Bring a blanket or a lawn chair, enjoy the Twilight Market nearby.  Admission by donation.

August 13 and 14 The Salmon Arm Pottery Club Show and Sale in the Mall at Piccadilly.

August 13 to 15  18th Roots & Blues Festival, featuring six outdoor stages and two evening stages.  Headliners include K’Naan, Martha Wainwright, Gord Downie and Joan Armatrading.  Fabulous food, artisan vendors, children’s stage and lots of incredible live music. August 14 and 15  SAGA Public Art Gallery partners with Roots & Blues Festival for “Paint the Festival” where 12 artists paint en plein aire at Roots & Blues.  Look for the light blue shirts.  Artwork produced will be part of the August exhibition at SAGA, up for silent auction until August 28.

Wednesday, August 18  WOW! presents “Krystle dos Santos,” 6:45pm at Marine Park.  Bring a blanket or a lawn chair, enjoy the Twilight Market nearby.  Admission by donation.

Wednesday, August 25  WOW! presents the Salmon Arm Community Band, 6:45pm at Marine Park.  Bring a blanket or a lawn chair, check out the Twilight Market nearby.  Admission by donation.

August 28 & 29  Monashee Mountain Arts Society presents an Outside Theatre Techniques Workshop at Cambie Farm Theatre (near Sicamous). Sections on Acting and Directing (Aileen Gentles) Lighting (Gord Hynek) Sound and Special Effects (Linda Khandro) Working script will be Treasure Island. Participation fee $10.
